"In the center of the universe she sang. In the midst of the waters she sang. In the midst of heaven she sang. In the center she sang. Her singing made all the worlds. The worlds of the spirits. The worlds of the people. The worlds of the creatures. The words of the gods. In this way she separated the quarters. Singing, she separated. Upon the face of heaven she placed her song. Upon the face of water she placed her song. Thus she placed her song. Thus she placed her will. Thus wove she her design. Thus sang the Spider. Thus she thought. "

Many cosmologic and theologic systems of thought share the same belief that the world was created through sound-- vibration being the creative matrix of life, setting the universe in motion. The Christian belief of this concept is reflected in that statement from St. John, "In the Beginning was the Word, and the word was God."

Jonathan Goldman, in his article Sacred Sounds, Healing Sounds, shares further that "In Genesis, from the Old Testament, one of the fist statements is, 'And the Lord said, "Let there be light!"'

From the Vedas of the Hindu tradition comes the writing that, "In the beginning was Brahman with whom was the Word. And the Word is Brahman. [They state that creation arises from the first sound of the universe-the primordial sound Aum].
The Ancient Egyptians believed that the god "Thot" created the world by voice alone.

In the Popul Vuh, from the Mayan tradition, the first real [hu]men are given life by the sole power of the word."
